Aigra Nova – Schist Villages

Aigra Nova is a village of schist, located in the hills of Lousã, municipality of Góis.

The Aigra Nova project has as its main objective the conservation of nature and the enhancement of cultural heritage. Historical and human of the Lousã mountain range, intervening in Góis, Castanheira de Pêra Lousã, Figueiró dos Vinhos, Miranda do Corvo, Pampilhosa da Serra, Pedrógão Grande and Penela.

This project has as principle action the environmental and cultural sustainability, applying the philosophy of global thinking, local action. And covers:

Ecomuseum Schist Traditions (Seed Core of the Ecomuseum Traditions of the Schist,
-Nucleus of the Maternity of Trees, Nucleus of Environmental Interpretation, Asinino Nucleus of the Villages of the Schist of Góis, Nucleus of the Oven and Alambique of the Family of Light, Nucleus of the Coirela of Agostinhas);
Country Houses;
Shop of the Shale’s Village;
Pedestrian Paths of the Municipality of Góis;
Cultural and / or environmental themed activities and workshops.

In this village, all the experiences that you could enjoy, were created and developed together with the population of the village. From how to make bread and cheese to grow and harvest the corn, picking and pounding the chestnut in the village cane, discovering pedestrian paths along the paths once traveled, or going to school or neighboring villages, to make exchanges and sales of groceries and products among the villagers.
Currently, due to the age in which the inhabitants already meet, the legacy was passed to the youngest, assigned to this project.

ISABEL

I am 33 years old and live in the Municipality of Góis. Prior to joining the Aigra Nova project, I had professional experience in various fields such as schools, post offices, pastry, and seasonal work in the Netherlands.

The opportunity arose to be a professional internship in this project, in the Administration area and I was delighted. Today, in addition to administrative work, I do a little of everything in the Village. Polyvalence is undoubtedly one of my virtues, and for this reason I really enjoy working on this project.

RITA

I was born in July 1988, in Barreiro and have lived since I was four years old, in the Municipality of Penacova.

I have a degree in Socio-educational Animation and in 2010, in the scope of the degree, I undertook a curricular internship in the Aigra Nova project, followed by a professional internship and, finally, a work contract in the village.

Performance coordination functions, being responsible for activities with groups; organize and direct the events of Aigra Nova and, like the rest of the team, support the remaining Valencias and projects of the village.

As passionate as I am for the environment, for nature and for the rural environment, I greatly admire the work that it is developed here.

LUIZ

Born in the generation of 1990, I have crossed the academic path with the associative life in Aigra Nova. After completing the Degree in Geography, I joined this project with a professional internship and I have been staying here since 2012, having joined the Direction of the Aldeia da Aigra Nova between 2014 and 2016.

Doctorate in Geography, I have developed and coordinated several projects over the years, mainly in the fields of tourism, leisure and heritage, with the Serra da Lousã and the Schist Villages as the predominant territory of action.

LURDES

I am 40 years old and I am resident in Conhais. I took the 12th year through the Arganil Employment Center. I started working at age 18 in a greenhouse, through several factories, among others. In 2011, at the stage at Trans Serrano, I got to know Aigra Nova’s project better and from that came the taste for the projects of this Village. After the invitation by the President, which I gladly accepted, I joined the association. I work in the Aigra Nova project since 2012, with the desire to maintain this position and to carry out this project.

JORGE

I was born in Lisbon in the year of 1968 and I do my professional career of scientific illustration, in the fields of archaeology and ethnographic.

I worked as a computer-assisted drawing technician between 1986 and 1999, in the fields of architecture and urbanism, and in 1999 I was invited to collaborate in the Municipality of Amadora in the project “Municipal Museum of Archeology”, where I accompanied all the process of design and elaboration of the new museum, as illustrator and museum technician until 2011.

In the same year, I left Lisbon to elaborate the project “Ecomuseum Traditions Schist”, in the municipality of Góis, where I live and work today, in a passionate and dedicated way.
